About Amanda

ECPA bestselling author Amanda Barratt fell in love with writing in grade school when she wrote her first story – a spinoff of Jane Eyre. Now, Amanda writes inspirational historical romance, penning stories that transport readers to a variety of locales – from the sweeping coastline of Newport, Rhode Island, to the rugged landscape of Central Texas. Her novella, The Truest Heart, was a finalist in the 2017 FHL Reader’s Choice Awards.

A member of American Christian Fiction Writers, she lives in the woods of Michigan with her fabulous family, who kindly put up with the invisible people she calls characters.

These days, Amanda can be found reading way too many books, watching an eclectic mix of BBC dramas and romantic chick flicks, and trying to figure out a way to get on the first possible flight to England.

Okay, now that we’ve got the professional details out of the way, here’s some fun stuff:

  • Without the Lord’s grace in my life, my dream of being a writer would’t have become a reality. My hope is that when people read my books, they will draw closer to Him.
  • My mom and sister are not only my best friends, but my critique partners as well. They read my books, offer feedback, and best of all, tell me when my writing is terrible. 🙂
  • I cast my characters as actors from movies, mostly historical ones. Then I use these pictures on my desktop as inspiration.
  • At our house, conversations are what I’d call “eclectic,” which means that, in the space of five minutes, topics range from Dietrich Bonhoeffer, to I Love Lucy, to what macaroon recipe we should make for tea.
  • I’m Type A to the max, and can’t function without at least two or three to-do lists. And yes, confession is good for the soul.
  • Although I’m a huge Pride and Prejudice fan, my favorite classic novel is Jane Eyre. I love dark and brooding Bronte heroes!
  • I listen to a wide variety of music while I write, including movie soundtracks like Poldark and Schindler’s List, Irish ballads, and fun Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald songs.
  • I love everything about England and the royals (especially Will and Kate) and after I take a trip there, I will probably never want to leave.

I’d love it if you connected with me on Facebook and Twitter,  so I can get to know you!
